What you can expect

The eagles in the area are territorial and are very stable in the area. They are used to this activity after 15 years of photographing them there. We rarely have other eagles in the territory because this adult couple usually chase them away. Some years, when the couple have chick, the young eagle stays in the territory until late winter.

We welcome guests in the afternoon/evening the day before the hide stay begins. This gives our guide time to show you the hides and the cabin, answer questions, and review facilities and safety information. A guide will always be available by phone should you need assistance during your stay.

We recommend a minimum stay of two days — longer visits increase your chance of capturing that perfect moment. Winter weather can change quickly, and while we can never guarantee sightings, over the past 15 years the eagles have failed to appear only three times.

The eagles are extremely shy, so guests must be inside the hides before sunrise and remain there until after sunset to avoid disturbance.

The photo hides are located about 200 meters from the Red Cabin. Both hides are equipped with a gas heater for warmth, comfortable chairs to sit in, and a small toilet.

In addition to golden eagles, Siberian jays, ravens, and various small birds are often seen near the hides.

Where to find us?

Our photo hides and the Red Cabin are located at Meådal farm, about a 30-minute drive from Trondheim Airport Værnes, in central Norway. A guide can pick you up or drop you off at the airport for an additional fee. The cabin lies approximately 15 minutes further up from the farm, usually reached by snowmobile when snow conditions allow.
